A Beautiful Afternoon of Music with Our Visiting Harpist

By Len Burgess

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming a wonderful harpist to Ferndale Nursing Home, and what a truly special afternoon it was. From the moment the first notes were played, the atmosphere throughout the home changed, becoming calm, uplifting, and filled with a quiet sense of joy.

The gentle, soothing sound of the harp created a peaceful environment that residents immediately connected with. The music flowed beautifully, filling the room with familiar melodies and soft harmonies that many residents recognised and enjoyed. For some, it sparked fond memories, while for others, it simply provided a moment to relax and enjoy something different.

There’s something unique about live music, especially an instrument as elegant as the harp. Its calming tones seemed to encourage reflection, conversation, and even a little bit of singing along in places. Residents sat comfortably, listening intently, some tapping their hands gently to the rhythm, others simply closing their eyes and taking in the moment.

Considering care for a loved one?

Ferndale is a warm, family-run nursing home in Crawley. Get in touch and we will help however we can, with no pressure.

Our harpist created a warm and engaging experience, taking the time to connect with residents and tailor the performance in a way that felt personal and inclusive. It wasn’t just about the music itself, but about the shared experience it created, bringing everyone together in a relaxed and enjoyable setting.

Moments like this are incredibly important at Ferndale. They provide an opportunity for residents to experience something uplifting, to connect with others, and to enjoy the simple pleasure of live entertainment. Music, in particular, has a powerful way of reaching people, often in ways that words cannot, and this performance was a perfect example of that.

The feedback from residents and staff was overwhelmingly positive, with many commenting on how calming and enjoyable the afternoon had been. It’s safe to say that our visiting harpist left a lasting impression, and we are already looking forward to welcoming them back again in the future.

At Ferndale Nursing Home, we are always looking for ways to create meaningful and enjoyable experiences for our residents, and this was certainly one to remember.
